St. Louis Classic - click thumbnails for larger photos
The River City Optional team attended the St. Louis Classic on January 5 & 6. Members of our levels 7 & 8 team participated in the three-day competition held at the Americas Center in downtown St. Louis. Fifty-three teams with 1,150 girls from 12 states competed throughout the weekend.
Laura Beth won the 12-year-old age group, and had the highest level 8 all around score of the entire competition! Her best event was uneven bars with a score of 9.65. Jada finished 1st all-around in the 8-11 year age group. Jada finished first on vault and floor and 3rd place on bars and beam. Megan finished in 2nd place on bars and 9th all around in the 15+ age group. Erin finished 12th in the all around in the 15+ age group. Our level 8 team finished 6th out of all of the teams. One of our team members could not attend, but we are optimistic that we could have finished in the top 3 teams if our entire level 8 team had attended.
The level 7 team had a great showing. All 7 girls stayed on the beam and nailed the other 3 events. They showed progress on vault and in their floor performances since the Fayetteville competition. The floor judges told the girls after the meet that our floor routines were the most entertaining routines they saw that day! Ashley lead the level 7 team finishing 3rd all around in the 12 year old age group. Ashley also finished 1st on beam with a 9.4, 3rd on bars, and 7th on floor. Katy competed her new acro for the first time and finished 2nd on the balance beam in the 10 year old age group. Katy also finished 6th all around and 8th on vault and bars. Danielle finished 3rd all around for the 9 and under age group as well as 2nd on vault, 3rd on bars and 5th on balance beam. Leah finished 7th all around, 6th on vault, 7th on floor, 9th on balance beam and 7th all around. Leah had our best bar score of a 9.375 which finished 3rd for the 10 year old age group. Janie Blair finished 3rd on bars and 9th all around. She also accomplished a big personal goal by sticking her beam routine in a large competition. Kalen finished 6th on vault, 8th on beam and 9th in the all around for the 12-year-old age group. Anna finished 8th on floor and 9th on bars in the 12-year-old age group. When we finished the competition the team results were still undecided since another few sessions of level 7s had not competed.
After the competition on Friday the girls unwound at the hotel with a pizza party in Coach Jamie's room. They polished off 6 pizzas in less than 5 minutes!
